On the island there is one road, one church, and one distillery (A Scot's life essentials). The Isle of Jura distillery was founded in \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e1963\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e, but its facilities date back as far as \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e1810\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e, as being the first licensed distillery on Jura. They are owned by independent bottlers Whyte and Mackay.\u003cbr\u003e\r\n\u003cbr\u003e\r\nThe Old \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eJura Distillery\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e was founded by \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eLaird Archibald Campbell\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e, and sits alongside the Corryvreckan Whirlpool. Nearly a century after it was opened, the distillery was dismantled due to a land dispute, and remained closed until 1963. Today, the Jura Distillery is a curious hybrid creature, with its \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ea fusion of modern distillation techniques and traditional craftsmanship\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e, it remains one of the most remote and isolated distilleries on the planet.\u003cbr\u003e\r\n\u003cbr\u003e\r\nTheir Whiskies are just as \u003cstrong\u003e\u003cem\u003ecuriously delightful\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e. Jura Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made from Scottish barley, milled and mashed on-site and distilled through Jura's enormous 28-foot tall copper-pot stills. The distillery sources their water from\u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e Loch a’Bhaile-Mhargaidh.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e Despite the fact that the water flows through a great deal of peat, the Whisky barely \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ehas any peaty character.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e This is quite different than its Scottish siblings across the way. Instead Jura Whisky \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003etakes its character from the sea,\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e after all, it is surrounded by it. \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eIsle of Jura’s 10 Year Old\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e has a fruity character, with a medium body, accented by ginger and coffee, and the characteristic slight briny taste of Jura malts.
